A note on the use of PROMETHEE multicriteria methods

Article Abstract:

Operations researchers should consider several constraints which render PROMETHEE methods for outranking multiple criteria less than suitable for multiple criteria problems. Notwithstanding the popularity of the PROMCALC-PROMethee CALCulation program, PROMETHEE methods should only be used when the decision maker is able to express a 'preference between two actions on all the criteria on ratio scales.'

Three practical criteria of comparison among ordinal preference aggregating rules

Article Abstract:

A new framework for the systematic evaluation of different ordinal preference aggregating techniques is studied. The framework consists of three criteria of comparison: the frequency/intensity of internal inconsistencies, the ability to pinpoint the best alternatives and the complexity of the algorithms. It is shown that the new framework has potential for comparing other aggregating rules.
