A park on the banks of the Elbe

Article Abstract:

It has been possible to renovate a derelict site close to the Alte Elbe River in Magdeburg, Germany. Work at the site began in Aug 1996, following a competition launched in 1992 covering both this site and 500 ha of neighbouring land. The site has been designed for use as a garden festival location, and the central portion contains exhibition halls and experimental gardens. Features include a curving series of sunken gardens along the base of a reconfigured refuse tip.

French blooming of poetical correctness

Article Abstract:

A number of architects and landscape gardeners are participating in the 1996 annual garden festival at Chateau Chaumont, 100 miles south of Paris, France. There is strong emphasis on the imaginative linking of elements and materials, and the use of high technology is discouraged. Exhibits include a hanging garden, a garden of trellises and a garden of umbrellas covered in flowers. This event will serve as a strong inspiration to many garden designers.

When is a park a work of art?: when it's the Parc Andre Citroen in Paris an imaginative and stylish public space that deserves to stand alongside the other grands projets

Article Abstract:

The Parc Andre Citroen is claimed to be unlike any other park and is a work of art placed alongside other grands projets of the Mitterand ear. The park has been developed for the benefit of the whole community and features two glass conservatories, one of which is devoted to tropical flora, and the other a changing exhibition of specific plants.
