The government of Italy's reform-minded prime minister Carlo A. Ciampi received a blow when four cabinet ministers resigned over the legislature's failure to strip ousted leader Bettino Craxi's parliamentary immunity. Ciampi has put electoral reform at the top of his agenda.

All aboard: Italy

Article Abstract:

The Italian markets have responded favorably to the new government Bank of Italy governor Carlo Ciampi is working to form. Ciampi was appointed by Italian Pres Oscar Scalfaro because of his high esteem. His biggest challenge will be to implement electoral reform.
