The auction of license plates with unusual combinations of letters and words has become a popular way to raise money for charities in Britain. During a recent Telethon, the auction of a license plate with the combination 'K1 DDY' raised $19,200.

Out of tune: politicized opera

Rome's opera has never been known for its high quality, and many are amazed that the city council hired Giampaolo Cresci as manager. Cresci has no credentials for the position and was hired solely on the basis of his political connections.
