AIG may pay up to $90 million

Article Abstract:

American International Group Inc. is hoping that a settlement with the U.S. Department of Justice and the Securities and Exchange Commission will help it to avoid criminal prosecution for having allegedly aided two of its clients to hide negative financial results from their shareholders. Brightpoint Inc. and PNC Financial Services Group Inc. are the two companies in question. Investigations are being carried out into the nature of insurance policies provided by American International Group to both companies.

U.S. home starts rise 1.5%, hitting 17-year high

The U.S. posted an increase of 1.5% in housing starts for the July 2003 period. The figure was a 17-year high for the nation.
