Iberia halts chunk of flights as pilots prepare first strike

Iberia, the biggest airline in Spain, announced it canceled more than a quarter of its domestic and international flights scheduled for today when pilots embark on the first of a series of one-day strikes during the peak summer season.

Swissair grounds fleet, fails to make payments to creditors

Swissair grounded all of its flights because of its failure to pay its bills, shortly after its parent, Swissair Group, filed for bankruptcy protection.

AMR expects nearly half of flights to be grounded in further job action

Article Abstract:

AMR Corp.'s American Airlines is expecting to cancel almost 1,000 flights on February 18, 1999. This number constitutes nearly 50% of American's flights. The carrier was holding talks with the Allied Pilots Association about the incorporation of Reno Air into American's system. This has been the main obstacle to an agreement between the carrier and the union. American is attempting to find out if the amount of pilot sick calls is dropping.
