AOL offers free Internet access in the U.K

Article Abstract:

Netscape Online is the new name for the free Internet access service in the United Kingdom offered by America Online Inc. The new service, which will be offered through the joint venture between Bertelsmann AG and AOL called AOL Europe, is set to be introduced in August 1999. AOL still will offer its subscription Internet access service. The new service is a response to free Internet access offered by Dixons Group PLC's Freeserve PLC. Freeserve is planning a 2.32 Euro billion initial public offering.

Freeserve stock is set to soar on its debut

Article Abstract:

Freeserve PLC is launching its initial public offering (IPO) on the London Stock Exchange and on the Nasdaq Stock Market on July 26, 1999. Freeserve is the first major Internet stock in the UK and one of the country's largest providers of Internet service. The company's IPO is oversubscribed by a minimum of 20 times. The final offer price will be 150 pence (2.25 euros) per share.
