A.S.A. expands

Article Abstract:

ASA (Prague, Czech Republic), waste management company, saw a turnover of CEK 1 bil in 2000. The firm invested over CEK 184 mil in 2000, mainly in lorries, containers and storage capacities. In 2000 ASA bought a stake in Quail, involved in maintenance jobs, and acquired HP Compaq (Czech Republic) and Compaq Batelov (Czech Republic). Besides, it acquired majority stakes in TS (Zabovresky, Czech Republic) and Regions, which owns a civil waste dump at Kralupy-nad-Vltavou, the Czech Republic. ASA has also taken over the activities of Sberne suroviny Brno (Czech Republic). ASA has started to expand to Poland too.

Flextronics in Brno

Article Abstract:

Flextronics International CZ (FICZ) (Brno, Czech Republic), electronic firm, saw proceeds of more than CEK 5 bil and a profit in 2000. The parent electronic firm Flextronics International (US) has been operating in Brno since 1998. The firm together with the municipal authorities of the city of Brno will build an industrial park on an area of 40-50 ha, where over 10,000 persons should be employed prospectively. FICZ's plant was the first to be built in the industrial park. The plant was commissioned at the beginning of Nov 2000.

Mostecka Uhelna Spolecnost becomes profitable

Article Abstract:

Mostecka uhelna spolecnost (MUS) (Most, Czech Republic), brown coal company, saw a net profit of CEK 504 mil in 2000, according to preliminary results. In 1999 the firm generated a loss of CEK 1 bil. The main reason for the loss was the breach of a contract on the withdrawal of power coal on the part of the power company CEZ (Prague, Czech Republic). MUS increased its proceeds to CEK 7 bil in 2000 compared to CEK 6.6 bil in 1999.
