AUSTRIA: AGFA TO BOOST VIENNA

Article Abstract:

From the beginning of year 2000 the Austrian subsidiary of Agfa-Gevaert will be responsible for exports to Bulgaria, Macedonia and Romania. Agfa-Gevaert GesmbH was already responsible for Bosnia, Croatia, Czech Republic, Hungary, Serbia, Slovakia and Slovenia. At the beginning of 1999 Agfa set up subsidiaries in Hungary and the Czech Republic to improve customer service. Managing director Alexander Schicker expects the Austrian company to generate a turnover of Sch 1.5bn in 1999 and Sch 1.7bn in 2000, up from Sch 1.35bn in 1998. Similar growth is expected in profit, which is in the "double-digit million range". The photo segment is the strength of the Austrian Agfa company, which provides also in graphic systems and medical and industrial diagnostics.

AUSTRIA: MINI SPEAKERS BY PHILIPS

Article Abstract:

The Vienna factory of Philips Electronics' Speaker Systems division aims to raise turnover from Sch 900mn to Sch 2bn by year 2003. By then the company is to make investments of Sch 500mn in the plant, after having invested Sch 600mn since 1995. The 250 staff of the factory produce annually 120mn mini speakers for mobile, cordless and conventional phones. Philips claims a 60% market share in speakers for mobile phones, serving clients such as Ericsson, Motorola and Nokia.
