AUSTRIA: BANKS' PROFITS UP IN 2000
Article Abstract:
According to preliminary figures by the central bank Oesterreichische Nationalbank, the return on equity of Austrian banks rose from 7% to 9.5% in year 2000. Operating profit increased 27.1% to EUR 4.52bn. Profit for the year is estimated to have surged 41.4% to EUR 2.34bn. Operating revenue grew 11.9% and net interest revenue 7.1%. Provisions for bad debts increased 7.5% to EUR 1.94bn.
