AUSTRIA: ERSTE BANK GOING ON-LINE

Erste Bank of Austria is in the process of setting up a new company in order to expand internet and electronic business. The new firm with the code name New.com is to set up a regional on-line brokerage service for central European markets by the end of year 2000. Initially the company is to set up multi-lingual internet platforms in Austria, the Czech Republic, Hungary and Poland.

AUSTRIA: BANK AUSTRIA INVESTING IN INTERNET
Article Abstract:
Bank Austria expects to raise the number of clients using on-line banking to more than 500,000 by year 2005. In 1999 the number rose by 150% to 80,000. According to director general Gerhard Randa, the bank is drawing up an extensive internet strategy for western, central and eastern Europe and make "massive" investments in internet banking. In this context, Bank Austria will cooperate with strong partners, also from abroad.
