AUSTRIA: BIDDERS FOR ABFALL SERVICE AUSTRIA

Article Abstract:

Electricite de France is to withdraw from the waste disposal company Abfall Service Austria (ASA). Estag, the Styrian power company in which EdF holds a stake, was originally seen as the likely buyer for the company that beside its strong position on the Austrian, Czech, Slovak and Hungarian markets is interesting for its know-how. However, a deal that was expected by the end of April 2001 has not been concluded. Meanwhile AVE, a joint venture of EAG and German RWE, has presented a bid for ASA. Also Vivendi is believed to have chances, whereas Saubermacher of Austria has withdrawn from the race due to economic reasons.
