Austria: OMV stops refining Shell and BP oil by 2003

Article Abstract:

OMV >the Austrian oil and gas company< cancelled its contract with Shell and BP Austria. By 2003 the Austrian subsidiaries of the international oil companies Royal Dutch Shell and BP Amoco will not be able to refine their crude oil into fuel for the Austrian market at the OMV refinery in Schwechat anymore. According to OMV spokeswomen, Bettina Gneisz, the company will need the additional capacity of around 15% to refine its own crude oil for its supply of the east European market. For the Austrian consumer this will possibly mean a rise in fuel prices, as Shell and BP Austria will have to transfer their oil transport from the Adriatic sea-Vienna pipeline onto road tankers.
