AUSTRIA: CHANGES AHEAD AT OTTAKRINGER

Article Abstract:

Engelbert Wenckheim, who is resigning as chairman of the board of directors at Ottakringer , says that the drinks group will need to cut costs. The measures that are overdue could involve the outsourcing of areas such as workshop operations. Ottakringer, Austria's second-biggest drinks group, includes the mineral water bottler Voslauer and a brewery in Pecs, Hungary. The holding company, Getrankeindustrie Holding (GIH), is owned 58.7% by the family of Mr Wenckheim. Mr Wenckheim will be succeeded by Siegfried Menz, currently finance director at Ottakringer. Mr Wenckheim's daughter Christiane will be responsible for sales and marketing. Ottakringer estimates its 1999 sales at Sch 950mn. While the mineral water division is making profits, the beer division was just above break-even in 1999.
