AUSTRIA: DISTRICT HEATING FROM PAPERMILL

Article Abstract:

In Austria, the paper maker Neusiedler is offering to supply a minimum of 20,000 MWh of district heating to a hospital and other objects in the town Amstetten, using exhaust heat from paper making. Initially the district heating project of Amstetten involved merely the construction a biomass and block-type thermal power station. The health minister of Lower Austria, Hannes Bauer, says that he has rejected due to environmental reasons an offer by EVN to lower the electricity price for hospitals in the state by a total of Sch 400,000. The decision on the district heating for the hospital is to be taken in summer 1999.

AUSTRIA/GERMANY: DISTRICT HEATING PROJECT

Article Abstract:

Sch 240mn is being spent on the construction of a district heating plant in Braunau on the Danube in Austria. The plant that is built by OO Ferngas and Energie AG will provide heat also for the German town of Simbach. The states of Upper Austria and Bavaria and the environment ministry are contributing more than Sch 70mn and the European Union Sch 35mn towards the project.
