The builders' merchant chain Hagebau reports that while 64% of the population say they prefer ecological insulation materials to regular ones, the market share of ecological materials is no higher than 4.6%. Environmentalists warn that in 20 years' time, the disposal of a demolished house will be more expensive than the construction of a new one.

AUSTRIA: MANAGEMENT BUY-OUT OF VEDAG-VILLAS

Article Abstract:

Chairman Georg Obermeier has confirmed that RHI is to sell the water-proofing materials division Vedag-Villas to the management led by managing director Georg Khevenhuller-Metsch. The deal is believed to be worth close to EUR 50mn. The new owners will keep all existing locations of the division, which employs just under 700 staff.

Article Abstract:

A fire at the mill of Heraklith AG in Ferndorf in the night to 13 August 2000 caused damage of about Sch 20mn. Since the shaving mill was destroyed completely, the production of wood wool for acoustic insulation materials will be taken over by the company's other mills for the next few months.
