AUSTRIA: GERMANS BUY TMV RAIL CARGO

Article Abstract:

The Austrian Vienna-based railway cargo forwarding company TMV has been acquired 75% by German Hamburg-based Transpetrol, a joint venture of Deutsche Bahn and Preussag. In 1998 TMV, which specialises in transport in Austria and eastern Europe, carried 650,000 tonnes of mineral oil, chemicals, bulk goods and mining products and generated a turnover of Sch 140mn. Transpetrol, which has a wagon parc of 20,000 units, carried 8.5mn tonnes of cargo in the fiscal year 1998/99 and reached a turnover of DM 178mn. TMV and Transpetrol are represented in seven European countries.

AUSTRIA: GERMAN HERLITZ SELLS FORMAT

Article Abstract:

German Herlitz AG sold the leading Austrian exercise book producer Format in a management buy-out. Managing director Thomas Riemer and technical director Christian Moser, together with Eston Privatstiftung (backed by paper wholesaler Anton Stahrlinger) paid Sch 70mn for Format. In 2001, Format is to sell 1.4mn exercise books for primary-school level and 3mn exercise books for secondary-school level. Turnover is to rise by Sch 10mn to Sch 200mn, with an export quota of 50%.

HUNGARY: EUROPAPIER EXPANDS

Article Abstract:

Europapier Hungaria has taken over the copy paper business of the Hungarian paper merchant Irokez. Thus Europapier, which belongs to the Frantschach group, increased its market share in Hungary to 25%.
