AUSTRIA/GERMANY: ROSENBAUER CUTTING BACK

Article Abstract:

Austrian Rosenbauer group, which claims to be Europe's leading producer of fire-fighting equipment, sees growth potential on the US market in 2001, while demand in Europe is suffering from tight budgets. This concerns especially the German market, where Rosenbauer acquired Metz group in 1998. Production capacity at Metz is to be reduced considerably and 60 jobs are to be axed. In year 2000 Rosenbauer group increased turnover from EUR 260.3mn to EUR 293.5mn, while profit on ordinary activities fell from EUR 5.8mn to EUR 4.1mn.

AUSTRIA: DECLINE FOR FRAUENTHAL KERAMIK

Article Abstract:

Frauenthal Keramik AG, a producer of insulators and catalysts, recorded a loss for the year of Sch 50.9mn in 1999. The poor result is explained with pressure on prices and with an unsatisfactory inflow of orders as well as the closing of the Siegburg factory of Rheinisch-Westfalische Isolatoren-Werke GmbH . Profit on ordinary activities fell from Sch 56.3mn to Sch 27.5mn. Group turnover increased 5.6% to Sch 1.35bn, which is explained with the east European factories in Hermsdorf and Sonneberg that joined the group in January 1999.
