AUSTRIA: GETZNER EYEING OVERSEAS MARKETS

Article Abstract:

The Austrian company Getzner Werkstoffe, a producer of polyurethane foams, is to expand both geographically and in terms of application markets. Currently the railway sector contributes two-thirds to sales. The company's polyurethane foam substrates are used as vibration isolators in the construction of railways and in train wagons and locomotives. Other applications include cable-car and chair-lift suspensions, construction and industrial applications. In regional terms, Getzner is setting hopes on the US market, where the polyurethane foam substrates are still unknown in railway construction. In Asia, the Austrian company is to tackle the markets in China, Japan, Korea and Taiwan. By 2004 Getzner aims to raise turnover to Sch 500mn. In 1999 sales doubled to Sch 328mn, while profit on ordinary activities surged to Sch 102mn. The annual average profit ratio is 10-11%, but in 1999 it was boosted by major orders from Germany. Beside being the market leader in Austria, Getzner is a supplier to the railway companies of France, Italy and Scandinavia.
