AUSTRIA: GOVERNMENT ACTION ON E-COMMERCE

Article Abstract:

Austria's economics minister Martin Bartenstein has set up seven working groups to look at the potential of business-to-business (B2B) and business-to-administration (B2A) e-commerce in the fields of Tourism; Austria as a location for businesses; Innovation; Education; and Venture Capital. The working groups are to present their results in September 2000. According to a poll among 250 businesses by Industriewissenschaftliches Institut (IWI) on behalf of the ERP fund, 78.4% of Austrian small and medium-sized firms have access to the internet and e-mail. Only one in 15 offers electronic interaction.

AUSTRIA: VIENNA TO PROMOTE CALL CENTRES

Article Abstract:

In a project that is said to be unique in German-speaking countries, the industrialisation fund of Vienna, Wiener Wirtschaftsforderungsfonds (WWFF) has set up a new firm to promote call centre start-ups. WWFF owns 98% of the stock of ViennaCalling Company, while the Belgian company Brucalla holds 2%. From autumn 2000 the new company will offer premises for call centres, including the technical facilities and knowhow for staff recruitment and training. ViennaCalling Company estimates that by 2002 up to 3,500 jobs will be created in call centres.

AUSTRIA: CALL-CENTRE BOOM CONTINUES

Article Abstract:

According to the IFA institute of labour market research, call centres employed about 2,000 people in Austria in March 2000. Another 5,000 employees will be needed by 2002.
