AUSTRIA: INFO SCREENS IN VIENNA UNDERGROUND

Article Abstract:

In autumn 2000, a train with special info screens will be introduced in Vienna underground run by Wiener Linien. The train with 6 Train Infoscreens per car will be tested for several months. The 15-inch flat screens run by Infoscreen Austria will provide news, weather forecasts, information about cultural events, entertainment and advertising. Wiener Linien says that the main motive for installing the screens is to provide passengers entertainment. At the same time, the number of Station Infoscreens at the underground stations of the Austrian capital will be increased from 25 to 33. The digital screens that are 1.5x2 metres big were introduced in 1998.

AUSTRIA: FURTHER CONCENTRATION IN AGENCY MARKET

Austria's biggest advertising agency Lowe/GGK Wien is merging with Ammirati Puris Lintas (APL) Austria. Lowe Lintas GGK has an account volume of just over Sch 2bn, while the runner-up, Demner, Merlicek & Bergmann has a volume of Sch 1.542bn. This follows the combining of the international networks of Lowe and APL at the end of 1999. Now the merger has reached also the east European operations in the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, Slovakia and the Ukraine.

AUSTRIA: TAILORED ADVERTISING ON THE INTERNET

Article Abstract:

A new technology has been developed at the Economics University in Vienna that allows advertising on the internet to be tailored to the habits of each surfer. The technology is based on cookies that register the surfing habits of the individual and on artificial intelligence. The technology is to be presented at the Web Intelligence conference at the University on 25 September 2000.
