SWEDEN: OFFSHORE WIND POWER PROJECTS

Article Abstract:

The Danish developer Jysk Vindkraft has applied for concession to erect 400 offshore wind power generators in Sweden. The applications include three different projects: 200 generators to be erected outside Gavle in the southern part of the Gulf of Bothia, 179 generators outside Forsmark, north of Uppsala, and 22 generators in the Gothenburg archipelago. In all, the projects are valued at DKr 5-6bn (USD 0.7-0.8bn). The generators will have about a 2 MW capacity each. Jorgen Poulsen, who is the principal owner of Jysk Vindkraft, expects the projects to be realized within the next two years.

EUROPE: WIND POWER TO TOTAL 75,000 MW IN 2010

Article Abstract:

New estimates by EWEA, the European Wind Energy Association, shows that the expansion of wind power in Europe is likely to be even stronger than previously anticipated. By 2010, production capacity might total 75,000 MW, and by 2020 200,000 MW, deputy chairman Arthorous Zervos said at the opening of the wind energy conference EWEC in Copenhagen on 2 July. He said EWEA has not yet officially upgraded the forecast, but a new EU directive, which is expected to be settled by the European Parliament on 4 July, is likely to make the investments boom.
