AUSTRIA: POST SEEKS HIKE IN NEWSPAPER POSTAGE

Article Abstract:

Osterreichische Post has filed for permission with the infrastructure ministry to increase by 15% the postage rates for newspapers with effect from 1 September 2000. This follows a political compromise on the dispute. After the government announced that it wants to abolish subsidies for the forwarding of papers, the Post had applied for a 65% hike in the rates. The next 15% increase in the postage rates for newspapers is planned for 2001.

AUSTRIA: NEWSPAPER POSTAGE RATES CONFIRMED

Article Abstract:

Austria's infrastructure minister has approved the compromise between the newspaper publishers' association VOZ and Osterreichische Post on subsidised postage rates for newspapers and bulletins . The Austrian Post will increase the postage rates by 32.25% at the beginning of 2001. The Austrian government reduced from Sch 900mn to Sch 600mn the subsidies for the mailing of newspapers and bulletins in 2000. The subsidies are to be abolished from January 2002.
