AUSTRIA: FAMILIAPRESS TO OUTSOURCE PRINTING

Article Abstract:

The Austrian publishing company Familiapress is to outsource the printing of the magazine Die Ganze Woche. The paper will be printed in Bavaria, probably by Sebaldus in Nuremberg, which used to print the magazine until a couple of years ago. This would cut production costs. Familiapress head Kurt Falk is said to be planning also the outsourcing of the printing of the daily paper Taglich Alles. It is expected that the printing contract will go to Rotationsdruck Weikersdorf (RDW) of Wiener Neustadt.

AUSTRIA: LESS SUBSIDIES FOR NEWSPAPER DELIVERY

Article Abstract:

Austria's government parties have decided to stop subsidies for the mailing of newspapers and other publications by post at the end of 2001. The charges for the mailing of such publications will rise by 15% already in 2000 and another 15% in 2001. After 2001 non-profit organisations will get other forms of subsidies. Moreover, the promotion of the press by the state is to be reformed, giving more emphasis on distribution.

AUSTRIA: HIGHER POSTAGE FOR NEWSPAPERS

Article Abstract:

Osterreichische Post has filed for permission for higher postage rates for newspapers and magazines with effect from 1 July 2000. The postage would rise by 65% or about Sch 1 per paper. Political parties and governmental units would be charged double the rate, and no discounts would be granted to associations other than non-profit ones and to other public law bodies. The minimum amount of copies for the delivery of such publications is to be raised from 300 to 1,000. This follows the Austrian government's plans to abolish gradually subsidies for the mailing of newspapers and other publications of associations, societies, political parties and other interest groups by Post.
