Austria: Code of practice for companies

Article Abstract:

Austria is to introduce regulations for companies that are floated on the stock market, under the title of 'Corporate Governance'. The response from companies has been positive, with 80% of those asked, claiming to have such a code already, but admitting room for improvement and an overall 90% believing such a code to be beneficial. The regulations entail guidelines about the management and board of directors of the company.

AUSTRIA: INCOMES FALLING IN AGRICULTURAL SECTOR

Article Abstract:

Incomes have been falling in the Austrian agricultural industry since 1996. Although production increased in 1999, total income of farmers fell by 3% from the previous year to Sch 31.2bn. The reasons for the decline included the reductions in prices of agricultural products and in subsidies to agricultural enterprises.
