AUSTRIA: PFEIFER PREPARING TO GO PUBLIC?

Article Abstract:

Members of the Pfeifer family have founded a holding company to take over the wood processing company Pfeifer from the private foundation of the family. The takeover is financed with a bonded loan of EUR 170mn. The new structure would make it easier for the company to go public, but no decision has been taken on such a move. Pfeifer, which claims European market leadership in shuttering panels, is planning further expansion on the German market, where it already runs a wood processing plant. With about 650 staff, the Pfeifer group generated a turnover of more than Sch 2bn last financial year. Ernst & Young estimates the group to generate a profit of more than Sch 300mn in each of the next three years.

AUSTRIA: WOOD RESEARCH IN LOWER AUSTRIA

Article Abstract:

The government of Lower Austria is contributing Sch 7mn towards the Wood project. In this project, up to 50 scientists and companies work on improving the properties of wood as a raw material. Among the targets of research are the processing properties and the inflammableness of wood. Companies participating in the project include Egger of Sankt Polten and Krems Chemie . The project has a budget of Sch 168mn.

Article Abstract:

The Austrian state forestry company Osterreichische Bundesforste has sold its Gu werk sawmill to the management. The terms of the deal were not disclosed.
