AUSTRIA: SLIGHT GROWTH IN TEXTILE SECTOR
Article Abstract:
In the first half of 1999, total turnover of the Austrian textile industry grew by 2.7% to Sch 19.35bn. Exports increased by 3.9% to Sch 14.02bn. Further growth can hardly be expected in the European Union, which is why European textile producers are pleading for a reduction of customs duties worldwide. The number of employees grew only slightly from 21,950 to 21,972 compared with the same period of 1998.

AUSTRIA: HIGHER PRICES FOR PRINTING PRODUCTS
Article Abstract:
On 1 April 2000 printing companies in Austria increased prices by 4-5%. The hike is explained with the increase of wages and salaries from the same date, the unfavourable ratio of the US dollar to the Japanese yen, and the increased prices of paper and materials and investment goods.

AUSTRIA: TEXTILE PRINTING JOINT VENTURE
Article Abstract:
A joint venture for textile printing has been set up in Austria by the two textile processing companies Josef Otten Gesellschaft m.b.H. of Hohenems and J. M. Fussenegger of Dornbirn. The new company called Alpha Textilveredelung is owned 51% by Fussenegger and 49% by Otten.
