AUSTRIA: STAGNATION EXPECTED IN LORRY MARKET

Article Abstract:

The sales of lorries in Austria are forecast to stagnate in year 2000, following three years of growth. In 1999 the sales of commercial vehicles over 6 tonnes grew 7.5% to an all-time high of 8,409 vehicles. Those of over-15-tonne vehicles surged 10.5% to 4,282 units. MAN increased sales by 13.5% and held 24.2% (22.9%) of the Austrian market. Mercedes held 18.5% of the market, Scania 13.1% and Volvo 12.7%. The latter saw a 20.9% increase in sales and Austrian OAF a growth of 40.1%.

AUSTRIA/BELGIUM: STEYR LOSES CONTRACT

Article Abstract:

Belgium's defence minister Andre Falahaut has announced that the Belgian government will cancel a contract with Steyr Spezialfahrzeug AG in protest against the Freedom Party FPO participating in the Austrian government. The contract worth Sch 13.64mn involves the delivery of 9 armoured rescue vehicles.
