AUSTRIA: WELSER PLACES ORDER WITH VA STAHL

Article Abstract:

The Austrian Linz-based steel group Voest-Alpine Stahl (VA Stahl) has received a large order from Josef Welser OHG. Over the next five years, VA Stahl is to provide the producer of steel sections and pipes with hot-rolled wide strip and hot-galvanised steel for altogether Sch 3.5bn. Welser employs 740 people in Gresten and Ybbsitz and generates a turnover of Sch 1.9bn. Exports account for 70% of production. Welser is one of the largest European producers of special pipes and sections for the building, vehicle, furniture, warehousing, environmental and other industries.

AUSTRIA: OPEL AUSTRIA TO BUILD NEW GM GEARBOX?

Article Abstract:

Opel Austria is said to have the best chances to become the new gearbox production site of Fiat-GM Powertrain. Based on internal benchmarking, the only serious rival for the Vienna-Aspen site is a Fiat factory in Italy. All in all, seven production sites had applied. EUR 330mn will be invested to set up production of the new gearbox, which is to be used in Opel's (General Motors') Corsa and Astra models and in the Fiat Punto. An annual output of 800,000 gearboxes is planned.
