AXA to purchase Winterthur unit of Credit Suisse

AXA Group of France is to purchase the Winterthur Insurance Co. of Switzerland for 12.3 billion Swiss Francs ($9.9 billion). The deal is being financed with a stock float of 4.8 billion Euros ($6 billion). The move would give AXA Group greater market share in Switzerland and international markets.

Banque Populaire to acquire stake in Fonica

Groupe Banque Populaire of France is to purchase a 61 percent stake in Fonica Groupe also of France for aproximately 800 million Euros ($1 billion). The French banking interest is growing into the real estate market. Fonica Groupe posted 360 million Euros in earnings for 2005.

AXA likely to quit reinsurance after receiving offer for unit

AXA Group of France has received an offer for its reinsurance unit Axa Re from Paris Re Holdings Ltd. also of France. AXA Group will be paid 120 million Euros ($146.8 million) more than the reinsurance unit's net market value.
