Executive severance packages are coming under scrutiny in France by legislators as European investors lobby. Regulations introduced by Thierry Breton would bind "golden parachutes" to a shareholder vote and could lead Europe into more accountable management.

French stage nationwide strike to protest new jobs measure

Article Abstract:

Labor unions in France joined with students in protesting a new labor law that would have allowed young workers to be fired without just cause. The strike disrupted trains, buses, airlines and closed the Eiffel Tower.

Airbus seeks union support; justifying job cuts may prove critical to allaying anger

Airplane manufacturer Airbus S.A.S. has announced a restructuring plan that includes large staffing cuts. Although Airbus is hoping for union cooperation, unions in France and Germany have already staged protests.
