Accountants do it freestyle

Article Abstract:

Some second-tier British accountants are becoming increasingly involved in corporate finance, with some pursuing corporate finance in order to generate business for their organisations in other areas such as tax. Arthur Andersen Corporate Finance claims to have considerable growth potential, particularly as it is heavily client-focused as opposed to deal-focused. Corporate finance departments use the firm's sector experience to specialise, although Arthur Andersen claims not to focus on particular sectors. The majority of second-tier accountants do not operate on a retainer fee basis.

Beating the banks in Birmingham

Article Abstract:

Investment banks have tended to shut down operations in Birmingham, England, over recent years, preferring to focus on higher-value deals. Their work in the city has largely been taken up by accounting firms, which have benefited from their leading position in the private equity and merger and acquisition markets. Companies planning mergers and acquisitions have generally been very happy to use accounting firms, and it has been possible for accounting firms to recruit experienced staff from the investment banking sector.
