Product review

Article Abstract:

Traditional materials such as tiles, bricks and timber can be used as cladding in a non-loadbearing form. Cladding can also consist of prefabricated panels of aluminium, precast concrete or coated steel. Clay is one of the most durable cladding materials, and can be made in a range of colours and finishes. There is also growing interest in precast concrete cladding, and this sector is now worth 60 million pounds sterling in the UK. Curtain walling is becoming increasingly sophisticated, with some systems incorporating improved ventilation and solar shading.

Cladding and curtain walling

Article Abstract:

It can be difficult to distinguish between cladding and curtain walling, but it can be argued that cladding incorporating more than 50% glazing requires the use of a curtain wall specialist. If less than 50% is glazed, then it is better to use a cladding specialist. Several UK companies now offer high-quality curtain walling. Most cladding and curtainwall systems are developed as tested components, and it is now possible to obtain custom designed solutions to fulfill specific project requirements.
