Product review

Article Abstract:

Some 10% of paints chosen by the specifier for a particular building are often changed to reduce costs but the paintwork could become substandard. To help combat this problem, producers need to give full information concerning products and specifiers should ensure their plans are fully detailed. Environmental factors and the ability of paints to dry quickly will affect which type of paint is chosen. Other materials such as timber, plaster and concrete are gaining in popularity as decorative features in new buildings.

Article Abstract:

Many more projects involving the conservation or refurbishment of historic buildings are being undertaken in the UK as money becomes available from the National Lottery. This is in turn boosting the availability of materials for such schemes. These include metals, which have weathering characteristics which make them appropriate for many conservation schemes, reclaimed materials, reconstructed walling stones, special laminates and ventilation systems.

Product review

Article Abstract:

British toilets may have to use flush valve technology if the Department of Environment legislates against siphon flushing systems. Siphon technology is regarded by many as being superior to flush valve systems because it is reliable and clean. Environmentalists argue that flush valve technology uses less water. Toilet manufacturers are designing new systems to help reduce water wastage. Washroom designs and bathroom accessories are also discussed.
