Acer net rose 41% in quarter: share sales help buoy PC vendor's results; laptop recall in U.S

Article Abstract:

First-quarter net profit for Taiwan computer company Acer Inc. increased by 41% to $170.5 mil, driven in part by the selling of shares it holds in other firms. However, faulty lithium-ion batteries manufactured by Sony Corp. caused Acer to voluntarily recall 27,000 laptop computers.

Generics challenge Roche's Tamiflu claims

Article Abstract:

An avian influenza vaccine, Tamiflu, has been reproduced by Cipla Ltd. of India quickly and easily, contrary to reports by Roche Holding Ltd. that it would take years to copy the medication as a generic. Reports of easy vaccine production ease fears of an avian flu pandemic.
