Technology funds thrive: growth, export factor offset currency swings

Article Abstract:

Asian technology funds ranked as the most profitable Asian stock mutual fund between Dec 1, 1997 and Mar 6, 1998. The Asian technology funds also have been among the most unsteady, fluctuating along with the technology sector's swings. The gains made by the technology stocks were driven by the realization that Asian electronic firms are better positioned than various other sectors to rebound from Asia's slowdown.

Article Abstract:

Regent Pacific Group Ltd. has launched a new product called Regent Central Asia Fund aimed at investing in the Central Asian countries of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia and Uzbekistan. The fund will be managed by Ascanio Martinotti and is an attempt to exploit the economic potentials of the region. The fund went on offer at the end of July 1997 and closed on Aug 8, 1997.
