Regulators give BNP go ahead to press bids

Article Abstract:

French market regulators gave their approval to Banque Nationale de Paris SA's (BNP) $37 billion takeover attempt of Societe Generale SA and Paribas SA. The approval of the Conseil des Marches Financiers represents BNP's first regulatory obstacle to its planned twin acquisitions. The bank still requires the approval of the stock-market watchdog and the Committee for French Credit Institutions and Investment Companies.
