Air France faces myriad hurdles in reviving Alitalia: talks could lead to European star; overhaul in order

Article Abstract:

The Italian government is permitting Air France KLM S.A. to enter exclusive negotiations with Italian airline Linee Aeree Italiane S.p.A. (Alitalia) to obtain a controlling stake. The government owns a 49.9% stake in Alitalia. However, Air France KLM faces financial, industrial, and political challenges, including opposition from some quarters in Italy to allowing foreign ownership of Alitalia.

British Midland, UAL seek consent for code-sharing
