Alfred Berg in the dark about ABN sale

Article Abstract:

Senior management at broker and investment banking company Alfred Berg are surprised that the business has been sold by Volvo to the ABN-Amro bank of the Netherlands. Alfred Berg had been openly for sale for some years but the management had been seeking a buyout deal. Some believe Volvo sold the company in a panic prior to its AGM due to continuous embarrassing media revelations about Alfred Berg's controversial financial activities. Volvo claims it did not find the buyout package acceptable and was keen to focus on its core activities as soon as possible.

Dresdner will add little to Kleinwort's M&A efforts

Article Abstract:

Dresdner Bank's recent 1 billion pounds sterling purchase of UK investment bank Kleinwort Benson will lead to the latter acting as Dresdner Bank's investment banking operation outside Germany. It will be responsible for merger and acquisition work, non-German equities and corporate advisory work. At present, Dresdner Bank has only a very small merger and acquisition operation, which will not be affected by being taken over by Kleinwort Benson.
