All-Australian Telstra: Asian telecoms

Article Abstract:

Australia's state-owned telecommunications firm, Telstra, is off to a rocky start in its campaign at independence, with many of its foreign investments falling to the vagaries of international politics. Telstra's investments in Cambodia's telecommunications industry is uncertain after the mid-1997 coup. The Australian government is planning to sell one-third of its stake in amounting to $7.5 bil. At the same time, Telstra is trying to recoup its losses in the Foxtel cable television venture it entered with NewsCorp. Telstra plans to merge Foxtel with Australis, a satellite pay-TV service.
