Article Abstract:

The Que family of the Philippines and Prudentialife Realty, minority shareholders in First Asia Realty & Development Corp, are impeding the efforts of Henry Sy, the major shareholder, to register the company with the Makati and Manila exchanges. They want an agreement which will ensure that Sy, the Que family and Prudentialife retain control of the financial and accounting operations besides retaining their board seats. This proposal has been rejected by Sy.

March of the sludge: volcanic slurry threatens to bury all before it

Article Abstract:

Mud flows containing volcanic ash from the 1991 eruption of Mt. Pinatubo threaten to repeatedly bury parts of the Pampanga province in the Philippines. These mud flows, called lahars, broke through dikes and buried towns during the rains of 1995. If reconstruction of dikes continues to be delayed by arguments among politicians, volcanologists, builders, and residents, more damage will occur when the rainy season returns.

Sibling rivalry: family feud hangs over Philippine chemicals maker

Article Abstract:

Chemical Industries Inc of the Philippines (Chemphil) is beset with a bitter family feudbetween Chemphil Chmn Antonio Garcia and his sister, board member Ana Garcia Ordoveza on one side, and brothers Chemphil Pres Eusebio and biggest individualshareholder Ramon on the other side. The dispute has extended to a power plant joint venture with Enron Corp, which Antonio negotiated without stockholders' approval.
