Pooling resources

Article Abstract:

A swimming pool, designed by Hodder and Sanderson, has been built in Clone, Lancashire, England. The architectural practice won the commission from Pendle Borough Council in competition with six other practices. The building had to be integrated with an existing sports centre but with its services independent. It is designed so the roof shape echoes the surrounding hills. The service core and changing rooms are used to divide the training pool from the main pool and the architect wanted the main areas filled with diffused light.

Warehouse for the software age

Article Abstract:

A derelict warehouse in the historic Castlefield canal basin, Manchester, England has been converted into office and studio spaces. The Eastgate building was in poor condition but was restored and converted by architect, Roger Stephenson using most of the original structure. The design successfully retains the original appearance of the building and combines it with modern, well defined additions. Despite the recession, it is 85% pre-let, a sure indication of the commercial success of the work.

Sightings from Planet Voda

Article Abstract:

The need for electronic communication devices is obvious, but they should also be well designed so that they are in keeping with the buildings upon which they are sited. Building owners are being encouraged by financial incentives to lease their roof to cellular airtime providers, making such buildings impossible to renovate.
