Using technology to generate form

Article Abstract:

The work of the French architectural partnership, Joruda and Perraudin is distinctive for its use of new technology both in creating new forms and as a design tool. The partnership started in 1980 and remains based in Lyons, France although it has designed buildings throughout the world. Joruda and Parraudin's work can be seen both as part of the academic tradition of French architecture and also as pragmatic and innovative. The exhibition contains photographs, drawings and audio visual displays but depends heavily on its catalogue.

A space at the Y

Article Abstract:

Architect, Michael Graves was commissioned by the Newark, NJ municipal museum to design an extension to the galleries. The finished work comprises three sections, an auditorium and offices, a new gallery wing and the refurbished existing building. With no major street elevations, the museum has to be judged as a series of interiors. Graves has produced a neutral environment in a Post-Modern Classical style which fails to reflect the museum's aim of accessibility for all.

Celebrating Achievement

Article Abstract:

The 'Celebrating Achievement' exhibition was staged to mark the 25th anniversary of the town of Milton Keynes. Experience has shown that the pattern on which the town was based has been successful, despite the town's rather poor image among those who do not live there. The exhibition looks at the development of the town and at its advantages, and is very well set out, with sections including housing, leisure and archaeology.
