All-units quantity-freight discounts with disposals

Article Abstract:

A study is conducted to determine the effects of various quantity freight rate structures and discounts on production operations. Markup prices and purchase sizes that maximize profit orreturns on inventory investments are determined using a one-price break model. The model integrates the inventory policies of companies with downward sloping price-elastic demand, lot-sizing policies and price set at markup on unit cost.An algorithm for multiple break problems is generated to include variable demand structures such as the short-term secondary market.

A note on the design of a two-sided, two-stage screening procedure with a prescribed outgoing quality

Article Abstract:

H.M. Kwon and D.S. Bai's two-stage screening procedure with the objective function of minimizing the expected total costs per item and the average outgoing quality is extended to situations where the performance variable is bounded by upper and lower specification limits. The procedure, which was modified for application to cases with known and unknown parameters, employs a variable to sequentially inspect the items and the rejected items during the first and second stages.

Reducing performance variation in the canning problem

Article Abstract:

Several quality control models for characterizing the tradeoff between manufacturing costs and product prices that arise when minimizing process variability were developed. The four, which control uniformity of production and conformance to specifications, minimize the fixed specification interval with and without establishing the process coefficient of variation and penalize nonconformance to the target weight for the canning problem of D.Y. Golhar and S.M. Pollock.
