Aluminium firm sees silver lining

Far East Aluminium Holdings expects it turnover to be more than double in 1998 despite weak economic condition. After completion of some contract on hand, the company posted a more than 50% increase in turnover in the first five months of 1998. It has secured contracts valued at HK$800 mn up to the end of 1998. Far East may acquire some companies in Hong Kong or China in order to lessen the impact of the economic crisis. *

EASYKNIT LOSES $543 MN DUE TO PROPERTY FORAYS

Clothing exporter Easyknit International has suffered an exceptional losses at HK$543.47 mn for the year to 31 March 1998. Turnover for Easyknit International was HK$1.665 bn in the same period. The company lost HK$52 mn in property acquisitions deposits. Losses from properties being held for development worth HK$201.35 mn. Another HK$289.89 mn was lost due to revaluation of properties. *

New Island profit dives

Article Abstract:

Hong Kong printing company New Island Printing Holding has announced that its turnover in the year to March 31st 1998 totalled HK$ 330.5mn, down from HK$ 383mn a year earlier, while profits dropped 65% to HK$ 22mn. The company attributed the drops to its aggressive pricing strategy and the costs and disruption caused by its new Shanghai plant. New Island saw exports grow by 15% in the year.
