Alusuisse's 1998 net profit hit record on 14% surge

Article Abstract:

Alusuisse Lonza Group AG posted record financial results for the 1998 year. The company posted a net profit increase of 14% for the year. The announcement comes just before Alusuisse's merger with Viag AG takes place. The company's net profits rose from 463 million Swiss francs in 1997 to 530 million Swiss francs ($371.5 million) in 1998. Alusuisse's sales also increased by 5.4% to 8.58 billion francs.

Nestle sees improvement in full year

Nestle SA announced that it is expecting to see growth in both its sales and profits for the entire 1999 year. The company made this forecast despite the fact that it reported a decline of 2.7% in its sales for the first quarter of 1999. Nestle posted a drop in quarterly sales to 16.7 billion Swiss francs ($11.05 billion) compared to the same period in 1998. Nestle's sales reached 22.2 billion francs for the period.
