Imperial Chemical Industries PLC (ICI) posted a fall in pretax profits of 17% for 1998 as its specialty-chemicals businesses have not succeeded in offsetting the company's heavy losses in its industrial segments. ICI's pretax profits dropped from 385 million pound sterling to 321 million pound sterling ($524.9 million). The figures were what analysts had predicted.

Clariant net surpasses expectations

Clariant AG posted flat net profits for the first-half of 1999. The company experienced a difficult market environment during the period.
