Amazon net falls; revenue rises 20%

Amazon.com Inc. of the United States first quarter profit decreased 35 percent to $51 million from $78 million a year earlier. Profits were affected by an accounting change from last year. Revenues were up 20 percent to $2.28 billion from $1.9 billion due to growth in global business interests.

China may be eBay's latest challenge as local rivals eat into market share

eBay Inc. of the United States is facing decreased market share in China as competition increases. The Chief Executive resigned the China unit, Eachnet. The online auction house in China is in negotiations to sell all or part of the operation to Tom Group a division of Hutchison Whampoa.

Softbank's bet pays off: Vodafone deal helped telecom triple profit, increase subscribers

Article Abstract:

Fiscal first-half net profit for Japan's Softbank Corp. more than tripled to reach $405.7 mil, driven primarily by the mobile communications business it acquired from Vodafone Group PLC in 2006. The business accounts for nearly 60% of Softbank's revenue and operating profit.
