(CORRECTION) According to the president of Spanish telecom equipment manufacturer Amper, the group is in talks with telecoms operator Telefonica about acquiring assets from the operator or establishing joint ventures in the systems area over the next five years. Telefonica had reduced its weight as a client of Amper's in 1997 to 40% from an earlier 61%. The deal currently being discussed with Telefonica Sistemas would increase Telefonica's activity with Amper again. At the Amper shareholders meeting, the president proposed stronger alliances with Siemens, Thomson and Motorola (mobile infrastructure, cable TV communication and Fixed and cellular telecoms in Latin America), as well as other partnerships, such as digital modems and network access with Rockwell. Amper's turnover is expected to increase between 4% and 5% in 1998 from the Pta 43,310mn registered in 1997.
