Chrysler, Daimler leaders already have a plan, as shareholders vote on merger

Article Abstract:

Chrysler Corp. and Daimler Benz AG are now prepared to merge into a single entity, even as shareholders in Stuttgart, Germany, and Wilmington, Delaware, prepare to vote on the merger on Sep. 18, 1998. Top officials of both firms have already charted a plan to iron out possible conflicts ensuing from the merger. In addition to plans for developing a new common culture that will not confuse employees and customers, Chrysler and Daimler officials have also come up with plans to ensure that the merged firm will deliver the $1.4 billion in cost savings predicted for 1999. However, the same officials admit that there are still areas that the two firms need to work on, such as the product plans of each of company, to ensure the merger's success.
